A DJ, producer and label boss at the top of his game, Chris Stussy has backed up early promise and grown to become one of the scene’s most exciting names. Now a key part of today’s global house landscape with a sound that is all his own, Stussy’s rise has taken him firmly into the spotlight, and the Dutch wunderkind is only just getting started…
A long-standing love of early house, raw production and an understanding of jazz, disco and Chicago styles feed into his unique take on the genre. As such, late-night cuts via Kaoz Theory, Moscow, Eastenderz, LOCUS, and PIV, come with bumping drums and basslines that are superbly slick and supple, while remixes for artists including the one and only Kerri Chandler welcome innovative vocal samples and lush synths.
2020 welcomed a significant milestone as he unveiled his label, Up The Stuss. A vinyl-driven outlet for Stussy and friends to release forward-thinking, timeless club-driven productions, the imprint has become a must-visit hub for quality cuts from across the electronic sphere. Home to his standout ‘Get Together’ project alongside Delaphine boss S.A.M., plus material from the likes of East End Dubs, Fabe and Janeret, Up The Stuss not only showcases how well-rounded Stussy is as a producer, but also his ever-maturing talents as an A&R and label head.
As a DJ, Stussy is just as widely informed and draws on styles to suit the many different settings he plays – often zigzagging from intimate clubs to leading festivals within 24 hours. Main stages at the likes of Awakenings and underground clubs such as fabric (London), Space (Miami) and Fabrik (Madrid) all come under his spell in equally memorable ways, with tours of the US, Australia & New Zealand, Asia and South America already in the books… Not to mention regular headline and extended sets across his home city, from Thuishaven and Shelter to The Loft.
And yet, after countless #1’s Stussy still continues to serve up heat with a wealth of original material, collaborations and remixes showcasing his innate musical nous. And while each new production shows a subtle evolution, they continue to feed into the singular Stussy sound that both DJs and dancers have come to know and love. With appearances already confirmed for the likes of Paradise, EDC and Awakenings in 2022, it’s clear Stussy’s best is yet to come…
