Unruly Phoenix, also known as Gabrielle Gilliot, was raised in Suriname and currently lives in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Since her childhood Unruly Phoenix had a great love for music, listening to a wide variety of music; she got inspired by deejays like Black Coffee, Martin Garrix , Boris Brejcha, & Surinamese female DJ Futego.
She took the leap of faith and came to the Netherlands to start her journey as a DJ in 2019. During the first year of the pandemic she enrolled herself at the “DJ Boothcamp” in Rotterdam and dedicated herself to a rigorous regime of practice & practice. Soon after her debut was secured at the Ziongate event at Amsterdam’s renown venue ‘Paradiso’ in 2021, hosted by DJ Waxfiend. It was then & there when she was awe-struck by the sound taking the world by storm, “Amapiano”; she found her purpose, and the rest was history as they say.
Nowadays Unruly Phoenix’s name is closely associated with headliners such as Black Coffee, Major League djz, Dbngogo , Waxfiend & Philou Louzolo, and a mainistay at almost every Afrolectic party in the Netherlands. Behind the deck is where she feels most alive and able to transmute energy with music and share positive vibrations with the crowd.
While not on stage, Unruly Phoenix is dedicated to her studio time that’s culminated in 3 releases; “Voices of Egypt” , S’yabuya & This & That. Equally independent as collaborative, she’s concurrently working together with her South African contemporaries.
With shows confirmed in Berlin, Ibiza, Luxemburg and Switzerland this summer, Unruly Phoenix knows that this is only the beginning of this beautiful journey. It’s safe to say that Unruly Phoenix is making big steps in the industry and propagating the Amapiano sound around the world.
